The painting depicts topographical landscape of sand plains, sandhills, spinifex, bush seeds and a variety of bush flowers in Atnangkere country, Utopia - Kathleen Petyarre's homeland. The pronounced lines represent awenth (a small shrubby tree).
In the 1980s she worked in batik, then began painting on canvas as part of 1988-89 CAAMA's Summer Project. Kathleen Petyarre's art directly refers to her country and her Dreamings. Her art is minimalist, done in a layering technique with very intricate dotting.
