Rover Thomas finished the work in 1987 but died in 1996.  Director of Aboriginal Art at Sotheby's Tim Klingender said the original Rover’s painting had all the ingredients that one looks for in his work.  It is large scale, it's very simplistic and abstracted, but it has an absolute sort of confidence and serenity and sort of power that art collectors love in his work, but furthermore it does depict Uluru which is Australia's most iconic landmark. It's the only time that he painted Uluru.”

Some Aboriginal art dealers disputed that the painting Uluru by renowned black artist Rover Thomas was actually of Uluru.  Read more about Rover's work.
